According to the Finnish Rescue Act, properties must ensure that rescue routes are properly marked and maintained. An emergency route is a driveway or route marked with traffic signs, which enables emergency vehicles to get close enough to the building in an emergency. The requirements regarding the rescue route map may vary by region, but in general the rescue route map must be clearly displayed and easily visible, so that both residents and rescue personnel can quickly identify the correct routes in an emergency.
The purpose of the rescue road map is to guide rescue personnel to find the fastest and safest routes to the building and its various parts. It can contain information about, for example, entrances, attack roads, the location of the fire department's pipe lock and the location of the fire alarm center. Although placing the rescue route map next to the entryway is not always mandatory, it is recommended as it facilitates rescue operations and increases safety.
It is important that the rescue route map is up-to-date and that it is maintained regularly. It is the responsibility of the owner or manager of the property to ensure that the escape route map is properly marked and that it is available to everyone if necessary.
